Two women killed in Ashkelon crash involving three buses
Two women died and another was injured after a crash involving three buses on David Remez Street in Ashkelon on August 4. Police opened an investigation; the injured woman was taken to Barzilai Medical Center, and residents should expect possible traffic changes near the scene.
The crash occurred on David Remez Street near the bus terminal on Tuesday afternoon. Reports citing police and Magen David Adom said that three female pedestrians were hit by a bus, and that three buses were involved in the incident overall.
One woman, about 80 years old, was trapped under the bus and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman was taken to Barzilai Medical Center and later died of her injuries. The third woman was hospitalized in moderate condition.
Ashkelon police officers and traffic-accident investigators from the Lachish District arrived at the scene, managed traffic and opened an investigation. Emergency services did not report injuries to the bus driver or passengers.
Residents travelling near the bus terminal should check traffic and public-transport conditions shortly before setting out and follow instructions from officers at the scene. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
