Ashkelon.org.il (the “portal”, “we”) is an independent city information portal about Ashkelon (not the municipality's website). We respect your privacy and process personal data in accordance with the Israeli Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981, and its regulations, including the changes introduced by Amendment 13, in force since August 2025.
This policy explains what information the portal collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. A separate “Personal Data Processing” page contains the formal notice required under Section 11 of the Law.
The portal is run as an independent informational project, separate from the Ashkelon municipality. For any privacy or personal-data question, contact us at info@ashkelon.org.il.
Ashkelon.org.il does not offer account creation, sign-in, or a personal dashboard. You can freely read the news, events listing, business directory and job board without providing any personal data.
We collect data in only two situations:
We use Yandex Metrica to understand how visitors use the site: which pages are viewed, what is clicked, and where visitors come from. The tracker is configured with Webvisor and a click map enabled — meaning aggregated session recordings (cursor movement, clicks, scrolling) are captured in addition to standard statistics. Where enabled, Google Tag Manager is used for the same analytics and technical-diagnostics purpose.
Both are third-party services (Yandex and Google) that process this data on servers located outside Israel (see “Cross-border data transfer” below). We do not link analytics data to a visitor's name or contact details — for us it is anonymised behavioural statistics.
You can block cookies and Webvisor at any time through your browser settings or a tracker-blocking extension; this will not prevent you from using the portal.
On a job listing page, the “Apply” button opens a pre-filled message in your own email client, addressed to the employer (the email listed on that vacancy). The name, phone number and message text you type are sent directly from your device to the employer through your email client — this data does not pass through the portal's server and is not stored in our database.
The employer, as an independent data controller, is responsible for how it handles the data you send them this way.
If you email us at info@ashkelon.org.il (for example, to update a business listing, report an error, or ask a question), we keep the correspondence in order to reply and maintain a record of your request. We use this data only to respond to you and do not share it with third parties except as described below.
Business and job listings link out to company websites, WhatsApp, Instagram, map locations, employer websites and application services. Following such a link takes you off the portal and subjects you to that site's own privacy policy — we are not responsible for how third parties handle your data there.
Part of the site's technical infrastructure (Yandex Metrica analytics, and Google Tag Manager where used) processes data on servers located outside Israel. This transfer takes place only to the extent required for those services to function, and in accordance with the requirements of Israeli law on the cross-border transfer of personal data.
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy: email correspondence for as long as needed to respond and maintain a record, and analytics data per Yandex Metrica's default retention settings. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.
Under Sections 13–14 of the Protection of Privacy Law, you have the right to ask whether we hold personal data about you, to review it, to request that it be corrected, and to request deletion of data you provided us directly (such as an email exchange). To exercise these rights, write to info@ashkelon.org.il and we will respond within the timeframe set by law.
The portal is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The job-application form is intended for job seekers. If you believe a minor provided us data without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when new site features are added. The current version, with its update date, is always available on this page.
