Summer buses, road safety and neighborhood renewal in Ashkelon

Ashkelon residents will see several city updates in July: Dan Badarom is launching summer routes 9 and 90 to the beaches, the municipality is opening a family summer programme, a new roundabout is planned at the Nahal–Katznelson junction, and four older neighborhoods are moving into an accelerated urban-renewal track.

From 1 July, Dan Badarom is launching summer routes 9 and 90 in Ashkelon. According to the municipality, the routes are meant to connect neighborhoods with the beaches, promenade, railway station and central bus station, making it easier to reach the sea without a private car during the summer.

Route 9 will connect the Remez terminal with the Hofit terminal and pass through Agamim, Barnea, the city center and the main beaches, including Delilah and Bar Kochba. Route 90 will connect Ashkelon railway station, the Ir Hayayin neighborhood, the coastal strip and the central bus station. Residents should check current stops and operating hours in public-transport apps and on the Dan Badarom website.

At the same time, the municipality announced the “Happy Summer in Ashkelon” programme for July and August. It includes neighborhood events, a mobile cinema, traveling water parks, kite activities, family rhythm workshops, activities in community centers and the “Summer for 10 shekels” project with selected attractions and events at a fixed price. The sand sculpture festival is scheduled for 27–29 July at Golshim Beach (Delilah).

On road safety, the city reported a decision to build a new roundabout at the Nahal–Katznelson junction near Hutzot Mall. Prominent warning signs are also planned at the Tzfania junction and at the roundabout on Shimon Peres Boulevard. The decisions followed a professional field tour on 28 June and discussions by the municipal road-safety committee.

Another update concerns renewal in older neighborhoods. The government approved the declaration of four Ashkelon complexes as preferred housing complexes for promotion through Vatmal: Histadrut–HaPortzim, Shai Agnon, Givati–Bar Kochba and Gideon–Ben Yoash. For residents, this is not yet a construction start date, but a move into accelerated planning; specific timelines, permits and public hearings should be followed separately.
