Ashkelon resident charged with hacking computers and spying on women
Prosecutors have filed an indictment against Michael (Miki) Bar, 43, from Ashkelon, who worked as an information security manager. According to the indictment, he hacked the computers of companies and private individuals and spied on at least 12 women.
According to investigators, since 2019 he developed malware, including with the help of AI, and used it to gain remote access to computers. According to the indictment, the computers of 26 companies, two kibbutzim and private individuals were hacked.
He allegedly could remotely switch on cameras and microphones, obtain passwords and files, monitor users' activity and take screenshots.
In addition, according to the indictment, at least 12 women were victims of prolonged surveillance: their cameras were allegedly switched on without their knowledge, including in their homes and bedrooms. According to the case files, minors were also among the victims.
Michael Bar is in custody. The charges include, among others, unlawful intrusion into computer systems, distribution of malware, invasion of privacy and theft.
This is an indictment: the court has not found Michael Bar guilty.
