Health funds in Ashkelon: how to choose one and book a doctor's appointment in 2026

Israel has no single national clinic system — instead, every resident is enrolled with one of four health funds: Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet or Leumit. All four have branches and family doctors in Ashkelon; the difference between them lies in specific branches, schedules and how easy booking is, not in the basic package of guaranteed services, which is the same for all under the National Health Insurance Law.

The fastest way to book a doctor's appointment is the fund's app or online account; some funds offer a Russian-language interface. You can switch health funds at any time of year — there's no need to wait for year-end. The process goes through the Bituach Leumi (National Insurance) branch, and the new fund is required to accept the applicant as long as the standard transfer procedure is followed.
